Abstract

  • The National Labour Force Survey (Sakernas) reports number of Sumatera Selatan's labour force in August 2023 was 4.59 million people, an increase of 90.21 thousand people compared to August 2022. Similarly, the labour force participation rate increased by 1.41 percentage points.
  • Compared to August 2022, the number of employed people has increased by 109.96 thousand people, to 4.40 million people. Transportation and Storage experienced the highest increase in employment (63.28 thousand people). However, Public Administration and Defence; Compulsory Social Security experienced the highest decrease by 39.30 thousand people.
  • The informal sector employed 2.77 million people (62.97 percent), a dcrease of 0.31 percentage points compared to August 2022.
  • Underemployment rate was higher but voluntary part-time employment rates were lower in August 2023 than in August 2022, rising by 1.38 percentage points and falling by 2.47 percentage points, respectively.
  • Percentage of commuter workers in August 2022 was 5.97 percent, increase by 0.37 percentage point compared to August 2021.
  • The August 2023 unemployment rate was 4.11 percent, a decrease by 0.52 percentage points from the August 2022 rate.
